Samarium Magnets
Samarium-Cobalt (SmCo) magnets are the best choice for applications requiring high temperatures.
They have an operating temperature of up to 350°C. This magnetic grade offers excellent magnetic properties, providing greater stability. Samarium-Cobalt magnets, which belong to the rare-earth magnets group (like Neodymium magnets), can be used in various applications such as medical implants and prosthetics, sensors, bearings, motors, and instruments.
They are highly stable permanent magnets across a wide temperature range, resistant to corrosion and demagnetization.

Applications of Samarium-Cobalt Magnets:
What are the applications of Samarium-Cobalt magnets?
Samarium-Cobalt magnets are the strongest magnetic grade after neodymium, and they can be used for medical products such as implants and prosthetics, as well as in applications for other sectors like sensors, bearings, motors, and instruments.
Why do we use samarium-cobalt for high-quality technical products?
High thermal stability and high magnetic strength are key factors contributing to high-quality technical products. Sustainability in terms of price is also crucial here.
For high-quality and technology-driven products, choose samarium-cobalt magnets for these reasons:
– High Curie temperature
– Excellent magnetic stability across a wide temperature range
– High magnetic strength of up to 30 MGOe
– Excellent resistance to corrosion and demagnetization
Since there are many possibilities with SmCo magnets, our team is happy to assist you in making the right choice.
Characteristics of Samarium-Cobalt Magnets:
What should you consider when using this type of magnet?
Samarium-Cobalt magnets are very brittle. This is an important property. Therefore, applications involving this magnetic grade require extra attention to avoid costly design errors.
Using a coating or applying samarium-cobalt in a magnetic assembly improves the magnet’s performance:
– Prevents chipping
– Ensures better adhesion when soldering
– Makes the magnet easier to clean
– Provides better hygiene in medical applications
Another solution is using a Samarium-Cobalt pot magnet. You can find more information on this on the Samarium Magnetic Bases page.
The magnet’s geometry ultimately determines its magnetic properties.
Quality and Guaranteed Supply
MagnetPlastic’s main objective is to ensure the quality of all our permanent magnets and products. We guarantee stability in our production processes, quality assurance, and reliable supply. The specific magnetic properties of each magnet vary. Many manufacturers offer quality that does not meet your required specifications. For 15 years, we have built a solid network of controlled and certified manufacturers.
MagnetPlastic ensures:
– That the magnets meet the correct magnetic specifications
– That the magnets meet the defined geometric specifications
– That they meet high-quality and reliability standards
– Products and processes applied with APQP PPAP as per customer request
What type of Samarium-Cobalt magnets do you need for your application?
Samarium-Cobalt magnets are anisotropic.
We distinguish between two types of Samarium-Cobalt magnets: SmCo 1:5 and SmCo 2:17.
The composition of these types of magnets differs, and so do their maximum operating temperature, energy density, and price. In magnets with an SmCo 2:17 composition, these values are higher.
